The Institute of Mineral Resources, Environment and Technology (IRMAT) and the Department of Health Courses at the Faculty of Human Sciences (FCH) are part of the “Washable” project, whose objective is to contribute to combating problems related to water distribution, basic sanitation and diseases such as: cholera, malaria, HIV-AIDS and Ebola, in French-speaking and Portuguese-speaking countries, through research. The project also includes Lancaster University in England and Buea University in Cameroon. These Educational Institutions intend to contribute to the promotion of universal access to clean water, free of pathogenic agents and contaminants, as well as to increase the capacity of African countries in participatory performance and methods of community involvement in water consumption processes, in order to allow a more complete understanding of the role of cultural, religious, linguistic, gender and other factors in water practices and services. On the other hand, the project will also promote capacity building seminars in Angola and Cameroon with relevant local researchers, policy makers, members of the water industry and the community, including schools. In this project, Catholic University of Angola units will work on transdisciplinary literature review as well as with communities and stakeholders and on activities to effectively improve water, sanitation and hygiene in Angola.
