We are certainly not wrong in saying that Angolan society expects a lot from this University, especially from its social responsibility, which includes the drive towards human, sustainable and inclusive development , through multidisciplinary and comprehensive training that encourages ethical, human and Christian attitudes that permeate the being and actions of new generations committed to the good, the beautiful, the right and the fair that does not fragment or vilify, but unites, magnifies and dignifies anyone (...).
(…) It seems to us that this word “challenge” in the plural is; the right one for what awaits us in the future; He is at the forefront of this institution, with numerous demands both internally and externally, at a time when the numerical growth of universities in the country reinforces the sense of competition that constitutes a This is an opportunity for us to assert ourselves as an institution distinguished by its rigor, quality, values and mission. But at the same time, it exposes us to the potential risk of losing students and professors who, for different reasons, may prefer these other universities, if we are not in the right place. This is the height of the demands that this competition imposes on us. In fact, if, in 1999, we were the only private university in Angola, today the reality is increasingly challenging, a fact that becomes more acute because we were, for some years, the University of Angola best positioned in the rankings of the hundred best African universities and, last year, we ceased to be among the hundred best.
We therefore need to reposition ourselves as a Catholic University that has always excelled in quality, excellence and distinction, through a clear focus on research. scientific and multidisciplinary and multidimensional training, with a view to comprehensive training that, in the words of Pope Paul VI, aims to transform the whole man and all men. For this, it is imperative to adopt new strategies, new attitudes and new actions so that, together and united, we can face this competition, working in the sense that the UCAN continues to be It is attractive to those inside and outside.
And, for that, we think it is fundamental that, internally, we assume, among others, the following challenges:
- Identify partners and develop strategies that allow us to diversify our sources of income;
- Define and elect at least two lines of research that are, institutionally, assumed as a hallmark of the UCAN and for which we must mobilize in order to ensure secure and stable funding;

- Create new physical spaces to increase the training offer both in undergraduate and graduate courses;
- Improve working conditions and create a more welcoming institutional environment;
- Create a management and quality monitoring and control sector;
- Betting on an Institute of languages, in particular English and French as ways for the internationalization of UCAN, both in terms of academic mobility and in terms of cooperation agreements; o with the creation of joint projects; want, even to attract foreign students and professors to our University;
- Translating all of UCAN’s relevant scientific production into the English language, creating its own office.
The external plan is also part of our priorities and for this reason, we anticipate:
- Assess and revitalize existing cooperation agreements with international institutions in all areas;
- Select and elect for preferential cooperation, some foreign universities and institutions, in duly specified scopes.
We are truly convinced that with the materialization of these assumptions through the invaluable contribution of each and everyone, we will certainly be able to raise louder the name of our UCAN.
- Welcome, UCAN;
- Welcome, Angola.
